Eight English Premier League Players Come Out To Teammates

Eight EPL [English Premier League] soccer players have announced that they're gay, according to a report

The eight players, around the English Premier League, have revealed to their teammates that they are indeed gay. As of right now, the players are refusing to announce to go public for fear of the reaction of the fans and the media.

The last time an English player came out was in 1990, as Justin Fashanu made it known to the public that he was gay. Afterwards, Fashanu lasted four years after coming out and committed suicide at 37, after having a difficulty time dealing with the backlash.

Also, Fashanu was accused by a 17-year-old boy of sexual assault, but said that it was consensual, which Fashanu noted in his suicide note.

Also according to the report, the players have gone to Professional Football Association chairman Clarke Carlisle, to reveal their sexuallity. The chairman of the Gay Football Supporter's Network Chris Basiurski, says that while the players would be supportive of gay teammates, soccer fans may not have yet progressed to that level yet.
